South Central Regional Coaches Cross-Country Poll
September 26, 2000
After two weeks, things are starting to have a decidedly different view,
especially at the top of the women’s poll. For the first time in years, Arkansas failed
to garner all of the first-place votes and the margin between the top three teams is as
slim as it’s ever been. The Lady ‘Backs hold down the #13 position in the national poll,
falling four spots from #9 last week. Texas A&M jumped two spots in the national poll to
#18 and Texas Christian is receiving votes in the national poll. The race for the top
two automatic qualifying spots for the NCAA Championships figures to be a close and
interesting one according to the coaches votes, but there is still a lot of season left
to go. The biggest mover in the women’s regional poll was the team from LSU who enters
this week’s poll at #10. The biggest fall was taken by the teams from New Orleans and
Tulane, both down two places.
As for the men, the more things change, the more things stay the same.
Arkansas continues it’s stranglehold on the top spot in the regional poll and the
Arkansas men are also the #1 ranked team in the country according to the
national poll. No other men’s team from the region received votes in the national
poll. The men’s poll looks very similar to what is has the last couple of weeks, with
some movement in the bottom half of the poll. The biggest jump was made by the Baylor
Bears and the McNeese Cowboys, both moving into the poll this week on the strength
of team victories over the weekend. The biggest fall was taken by the Southwest Texas
Bobcats who dropped from a tie for sixth to out of the rankings.
The only meet within the region scheduled for this weekend is the LSU Invitational
in Baton Rouge. But several regional teams including TCU, UTA, Houston, and Sam Houston will
travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, this weekend for the Oklahoma State University Comboy Jamboree.
