South Central Regional Coaches Cross-Country Poll
October 10, 2000
As the season enters it’s final month, the weekly edition of the
NCAA South Central Regional Coaches Cross Country Poll is starting to have some
familiarity to it. While there will no doubt be some more fluctuation before the
Regional Championship on November 11, at least the top half of both sides of the
poll are fairly constant.
The biggest jump in the men’s poll this week was taken by the McNeese
State Cowboys, up three spots to the number five position. This comes after winning
their home dual with Lamar. The Aggies of Texas A&M took the biggest fall down two
spots to the number seven spot. Arkansas continues to hold down the number one position
but fell this week in the national poll into the second spot behind Stanford.
In the women’s poll, the Privateers of the University of New
Orleans rocketed back up the poll into the number four position, up six spots from
tenth last week. UNO won the team title at the Auburn Invitational over
the weekend and appears to be rounding into form. The Lady Longhorns of Texas
fell the most down two spots into a tie for the ninth position despite winning over
the weekend at the Southwest Texas Invitational. Arkansas continues to hold
the number one position and in a more convincing fashion than earlier in the year.
In the national poll, Arkansas comes in at the number twelve spot, Texas A&M is
down a couple to number nineteen while Texas Christian and New Orleans are receiving
votes.
Team champions from within the region last weekend included the
Baylor women and TCU men at the North Texas Invitational; the Texas women and
Stephen F. Austin men at the Southwest Texas Invitational; and the McNeese men and
women at their home dual with Lamar.
Two big meets are on the slate within the region this weekend.
The Texas A&M Invitational in College Station and the Arkansas Chili Pepper
Invitational in Fayetteville.
